We are feeding them meatbird feed because the nutrient ratio was virtually identical to whatever other feed we were considering (perhaps grower/pullet feed … I don’t remember!) at Farm and Home Supply. Also, they are outside all day, every day, so they have access to plenty of green forage and bugs. I also read somewhere that chicks can even be started on meatbird feed if you don’t want to give them medicated chick feed, but I can’t find the reference! Well – the chickens are doing great. They are growing well and look healthy and beautiful.

Of course, we will switch them over to layer feed once they start laying.

Nice little flock you have! I love the variety. I’m all about variety myself. Why are you feeding them meatbird? I have never heard of anyone doing that so I was just wondering what your reasoning was. I’m always up for learning something new.

Yeah, I am starting to wish we got a few cockerels to raise for meat, since the girls are turning out so healthy. The Polish rooster is pretty scrawny and obviously isn’t a meat bird.

Wow..they look great And so much nicer than the meat kings I’m raising this summer.
