Aaron and I are reading the works of Dr. Diana Schwarzbein right now, an endocrinologist whose focus is not on weight loss, but normalization of metabolism (which we are starting to realize is the best possible way to address sugar and food cravings). She advocates eating more carbs than most low-carb gurus, but certainly a lot fewer carbs than the food pyramid recommends. I'd recommend reading her books. You can check out some nice reviews of her work here: Dr. Schwarzbein book reviews at The Nourished Life blog

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for the comment. It's easy to feel like a lone voice in the wilderness, with what we know about nutrition and no easy way to express it. Good luck to you in your certification program! I'll be tracking your blog too. :)

I just read your comment on Tom Naughton's FatHead blog and OMG you really validated me!! I too just received my Masters in Counseling but did not go on to get licensed for the same reasons you did not continue. I couldn't stand the isolationist treatment that refuses to look at the human organism as a whole wherein diet effects everything!! I found a cerification program in Nutritional Therapy that I'll be pursuing next year. With my counseling training and expert nutrition skills (nourishing, traditional, low carb, low allergen, etc) I think I can make a better impact. I'm glad I found your blog!! I'll be checking back to see what you're up to :-)
